Lebbeus Woods (1940-2012)

NEW YORK, NEW YORK, USA - Architecture and war are not incompatible. Architecture is war. War is architecture. I am at war with my time, with history, with all authority that resides in fixed and frightened forms. I am one of millions who do not fit in, who have no home, no family, no doctrine, no firm place to call my own, no known beginning or end, no "sacred and primordial site." I declare war on all icons and finalities, on all histories that would chain me with my own falseness, my own pitiful fears. Mi dispiace caro, ma non ci sarà un domani per te: passa a miglior vita Lebbeus Woods (Lebbeus?), architetto e artista americano noto per le sue creazioni strambe, la quasi totalità delle quali sono tristemente rimaste su carta; aveva presentato diverse "proposte spontanee" per la ricostruzione di città come L'Havana, Sarajevo e San Francisco, ma purtroppo nessuno se l'è mai cacato. L'unico palazzo che gli hanno fatto tirare su è stato il Light Pavilion (video) a Chengdu, China. Fra le altre cose, Woods (che in film Alien³ è accreditato come "conceptual architect") fece parlare di sé quando denunciò i produttori del molto figo L'esercito delle 12 scimmie per avergli copiato l'idea della sua opera Neomechanical Tower (Upper) Chamber per la stanza degli interrogatori; l'azione legale ebbe successo (a parte l'evidenza delle immagini, lo stesso Gilliam ammise il plagio) e Woods ricevette un bel po' di soldi e i crediti nel film per aver "ispirato" il design della stanza. link
